CHILDREN'S
RULES OF PRACTICING
"It's the QUALITY of the practice time,
not the QUANTITY,
that leads to improvement."
Initially, five to ten minutes of easy-going, relaxed practice is best. As the months progress, lessons become more complex and more practice time is required, so about fifteen to twenty minutes should become the norm. Mid-point in the method book, students should be practicing twenty-five to thirty minutes a day. By the end of the method book, at least forty-five. Once the method book is done and the Hanon book is introduced, an hour a day should be the norm. (The hour can always be broken into smaller time segments during the day!)
Follow the rules:
Feet flat on the floor
SIT UP STRAIGHT
Shoulder's relaxed
Arms slightly away from your sides
Wrists should be loose and level with the keyboard
Play with curved fingers on white keys
Don't let the first joint "cave-in"
Fingers do all the work - Don't push down with the hand or arm
The thumb goes 'up and down' all by itself - no help from the hand
Count your timing out-loud!
"Turtle Slow Until You Know!"
Practice slowly, and apply each and every technique rule to every note played without exception!
"The slower you practice, the faster you'll learn."
Practice slowly and methodically: A beginner has nothing to gain by trying to attempt a fast, performance tempo until they've mastered their:

Monthly tuition rate
Monthly tuition is paid irrespective of the student's weekly attendance:
Each month, tuition is paid without pro-rating or bumping forward.
Make-ups and reschedules due to injuries, illness and vacations are available within four weeks of the original lesson.
Monthly tuition must be paid on or before the first of the month:
The monthly tuition payment must be received on or before the first week of the month in order to retain the lesson times published on the website schedule.
Postdated checks (with a post-it note attached) advising when to deposit will be accepted, but in all cases,
students who have not mailed or delivered a check by the second week will be dropped from the schedule.
Monthly tuition must be paid consecutively:
When a student decides to skip a month, and tuition is not paid for the hiatus; the student's lesson time will be opened-up on the schedule and made available to new students. In order to return to lessons, the monthly tuition and registration fee must be paid in advance in order to secure a new lesson time on the schedule.

Parents and students should always use caution and good judgment
